Adequate and consistent layer of tears on the surface of the eye is essential to keep the eye healthy, comfortable and seeing well. Chronic lack of adequate lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye is termed as dry eye. Factors such as constant computer usage, prolong contact lens wear, menopause, aging, smoking, corneal refractive surgery (LASIK) may increase the likelihood of dry eyes. Symptoms of dry eyes include burning sensation, itchy eyes, heavy eyes, fatigued eyes, photophobia and blurred vision. As interesting as it may sound, watery eyes can also be a symptom of dry eye syndrome. Because dry eye has many causes, a number of treatment and management approaches are used.
